Finally! A Snow Day!

We've had a really mild winter here this year - warmer than usual temperatures and very little snow. Last year, I believe we set records for the amount of snow fall so its quite odd to have so little this year. (I'm not complaining about the weather at all...but what teacher doesn't hope for a snow day a couple times a year? ha!)

Well, many children and teachers got our wish last week when a big storm passed through starting early Friday morning with the promise to snow ALL day long. Despite there not being that much snow when they made the call around 6am, everyone realized the roads would be awful for the morning AND afternoon commute so a snow day it was!

We had a fantastic day at home - the kids helped me pick up their playroom, I did a ton of laundry, vacuumed, and cleaned. We played games, did puzzles, watched some tv, finger painted and then the kids played great together all afternoon while I cleaned. I kept telling them they were being SO good and I told Paul that I was starting to wonder if they weren't really our kids! ha!

Once the snow finally stopped around 5 pm, we all headed outside to dig out and play in the snow. It was very wet and heavy so Paul did most of the work with the snow blower but I dug out some of the patio and deck and then helped the kids start building an igloo. It really looked beautiful outside - the wet snow coated everything and as the sky cleared - we had a beautiful sun setting behind the trees.

Snow days are always a great perk of being a teacher but this one topped my list - just a perfect mix of getting lots accomplished around the house, playing with the kids and them being on their best behavior...all on a FRIDAY, too! Thanks for the 3 day weekend, Mother Nature!

Winter Wonderland! Everything was coated in white!

Beautiful sunset peeking out between the snow covered trees.

What a beautiful picture of the sunset! And that does sound like the perfect snowy day!

We've only had one snow day, too - as compared to 16 (!!!) last year. Ours wasn't quite as picturesque, though. ;) Still, it's so great [speaking from the perspective of a teacher's wife!] to have that unexpected little "treat" now and again. :)
