Back to the 80s

Who doesn't love the 80s!?!?! So, admittedly, maybe the fashion trends of that decade were a lil wild but the music? The best! As one friend said, I don't care what's going on, its likely we'll stop what we're doing to sing along at the top of our lungs when many great 80s hits come on! Livin' On a Prayer? Walk This Way? Don't Stop Believin? Jessie's Girl! Take on Me! (one of my ALL time faves!)

Getting ready for my Mothers of Multiples' group's Back to the 80s Murder Mystery was just as much fun as the even itself! Coming up with ideas, trying to find just the right clothes and accessories and then planning hair and makeup? Oh...and you know I was listening to the 80s on Pandora as I got ready - blue eye shadow, heavy black eye liner and a crimper! Paul acid washed a pair of old jeans and layered a couple shirts to flip up the collars on. It was SO much fun to see what everyone at the party came out in - great clothes, throwbacks and styles!

The Murder Mystery itself was kind of a blur to me - I was one of the ones busy helping keep things going - selling raffle tickets, keeping track of Silent Auctions, making announcements and such - but what I did catch was fun. We hired a local acting group to set up the Murder Mystery and act it all out. They loved our 80s theme and even brought along a hair band! They said it was their Reunion Tour! Everyone seemed to enjoy it and agreed it was fun to do something different.

I haven't seen our final numbers but from what I could tell, I think the event was a big success for our group! I think we doubled our 'minimum' for sales and I'm not sure we could have even fit any more people in the room that we had for the night. The decor looked awesome - lots of neon and tons of great 80s memorabilia including old cassette tapes, records, movies and Rubix Cubes!

It was a lot of fun and I'm so glad it all went so well! Thanks to all the awesome ladies in our group that helped make it such a big success especially my fellow MoM, Lisa! She was the master mind behind much of the decor and the event and we can't thank her enough for all of her hard work!!

So...do tell me...what was your favorite song(s) of the 80s? Favorite movie? Fashion item you once wore??
Song - Take on Me by Aha
Movie - St. Elmos Fire
Fashion item - I loved my multi-colored acid washed jeans!

All dressed up and ready to party!!

Our awesome MoMs board
A very fun bunch of fellow MoMs!
Several of our actors

Friends and details!
LOVED those centerpieces and the awesome MTV/MOMs cake!

Totally Rad 80s!

That looks like SO much fun! I agree...the preparations must have been at least half the fun, too!

I love all those songs you listed. Makes me think of big bangs! ;) My very favorite shirt was a turquoise button-down. I wore it untucked, with a black belt at the waist. Black flats with my pleated jeans. Probably 4th grade. Good times!

And then I got into the preppy look a bit (at least as much as a 6th grader [or there abouts] could). Turtlenecks under button-downs!

I love that you crimped your hair! HA! What did your kiddos think???
