* TGIF! Thank goodness that despite still being extremely busy this week, things went smoother and the week went by really fast! My "To Do" list at work keeps getting longer instead of shorter somehow but I'm trying not to hyperventilate about it.
* I'm taking Paul out to dinner tonight to celebrate his birthday (which is tomorrow). We're going to this awesome Tapas place downtown and hope to check out a wine bar after dinner.
* Tomorrow we're headed to my parents to celebrate Adam's and my nephew Luke's birthdays. I can't wait to see my sister and nephews again!
* I have a substitute teacher today so I can try to knock out most of the paperwork for my students' IEPs which are in a few weeks. I usually have a good bulk of that paperwork taken care of by this point in time but have been so swamped, I haven't even started them yet. I'm trying not to freak out and hoping I get a lot accomplished today.
* 5 of my 6 students have their special education re-evaluation this year (which means more testing and paperwork). Our school psychologist was in this week to assess them all and I always find it interesting to observe the testing sessions. I can't give any prompts or help my students at all since they are being given standardized tests (its hard to bite my tongue sometimes!). Sometimes I get frustrated that they don't do as well as I know they can while other times they totally surprise me with how they do.
* A lot of my students have what we sometimes call "splinter skills." For example, one student can put the alphabet in order, match upper case to lower case, say and write his/her name, read some commonly used words, and write in a daily journal but he/she can not verbally spell his/her name to me or tell me what letters are in his/her name. It seriously amazes me when I look at the challenges they face with their cognitive disabilities and language deficits but still be able to do and comprehend so much. Seriously in awe!
* I'm currently reading Ellen's newest book. Its seriously funny and pretty short and I thought it'd be a super quick read...if I could stay awake long enough to read more than 2 pages each night! I had hoped to read 2 books this month but that is definitely not going to happen!
* My MoMs group does a fundraiser each year and we're trying something new this year that I'm really excited about! A Murder Mystery Dinner Theater! We're hosting it and bringing in a local theater group and having an 80s theme!! Its in March and I can't wait!!
* We booked 1 vacation this week and are planning a second one (waiting for confirmation on the dates). One is a weekend trip in March to Great Wolf Lodge and the other one is a week long trip to Traverse City (our favorite getaway place!). We are thinking about another trip somewhere but haven't decided yet when and where.
* My student teacher is still doing a great job and seeming to really like being in our classroom. I'm happy that my students have adjusted very well to her and are not out of sorts by the new addition to our room. (I credit the Social Story I made! ha!). She's planning a few lessons for next week - I'm anxious to see what she comes up with!
* Have a great weekend!

Lots of good stuff here...but I can't get past "tapas" and "wine bar". Eat and drink some for me, will ya? Oh, and Happy Birthday Paul! ;)
I know you had a really full week...and it sounds like you have a really full weekend...but hope it's the kind of "full" that allows you to recharge. Enjoy it, Barb!
I would love to student teach under you. You are extremely organized (I can tell) and that is exactly what a ST needs! How do you manage it all?
what's the tapas place? ...not that we ever go out in that city anymore. it's hard enough to go out down here!!
vacation sounds nice!! we should start to think about that and get to planning.
and, for the record, i want to leave comments on your previous posts, too, but blogger doesn't like wordpress right now!!

Great Wolf Lodge is supposed to be AWESOME! Such fun!
Hope dinner was great...and the wine was better!
It is amazing to see the difference between what they can do verbally and what they can do otherwise. The way in which their brains were built is so interesting.
WE LOVE GWL!!! :) Know you all will have a wonderful, wonderful time. :)
Your organizational skills are a thing of beauty. My hat is OFF!
Lots of work stuff happening - but really, you sound like an amazing teacher.
