Heartbeat

Life has a rhythm. Sometimes fast, sometimes slow, often steady. We find that our heartbeat often matches that pace. It speeds up when we're excited. It slows down when we rest.

But most of all, a heartbeat centers us. It represents one of the first signs of life we can grasp and one of the last that we hold onto.

As a Mom, I have felt the immense joy of hearing my baby's heartbeat for the first time. I can remember the anticipation and excitement that came with it along with the reassurance that it provided, knowing my baby was safe and continuing to grow.

This week, I was lucky enough to hear the heartbeat of a baby at 14 weeks gestation. Not mine but one that I will love as much as my own.

Growing up, my best friend and I dreamed of marrying friends and raising our kids together. That fairy tale has become a reality in all aspects now as she is expecting her first child - one that she has wanted for many years. Hearing the news of this baby and hearing that heartbeat this week was just as amazing as the reality of my own experiences.

Lisa and I have been through so much together - friends for over 30 years - pretty much every up and down imaginable - and I'm so grateful for this gift she has been given. I'm also very thankful for her trust and allowing me to share in this journey with her.

Congratulations Lisa (& Ben)! I can't wait to spoil your sweet little one and watch him or her toddle along behind my kiddos!
